Salaries for New Zealand lawyers salary survey conducted by recruitment firm Nicholas Scott shows a slightly higher pay scale for Wellington lawyers over Auckland, with higher minimum levels at the commencement stages, although law firm equity partners shown in the survey have substantially higher annual earnings for Auckland partners compared to their capital counterparts ($285,000+ compared to $325,000+).
The survey shows that the most sought after roles are for those in the three-to-six years PQE area practising in commercial law, including banking, finance, M&A and construction.
The Wellington scene is seen to be strong in the area of those between two and seven years PQE in commercial property and corporate law. The survey also noted the dominant trend towards lawyers moving to in-house roles
