Harvey Norman New Zealand has an opportunity for an In-house Legal to join our Head Office team based in Manukau. In this newly created role, you will provide timely legal advice to the business around contracts, policies and our legal compliance obligations.

About the Role
As well as advise the business on our obligations around consumer legislation and other relevant legislation, some of the key responsibilities of this role will include:
Provide input into contract negotiation, terms of trade, leases, purchase agreements and supplier terms.
Develop and manage the HNNZ risk and compliance plan focusing on the consumer, fair trading and privacy regulatory system (“consumer regulatory system”).
Respond to Consumer Guarantees Act complaints and Disputes Tribunal hearings, coaching senior managers on tribunal appearances and strategy, managing settlements in accordance with delegated authority;
Manage Privacy breaches and be the trusted partner to the Privacy Officer, forming part of the Privacy Committee. Manage the privacy register and breach reporting system.
Assist the business with commercial risk management including identifying, quantifying, classifying, recording and assisting with development of risk management plans for significant risks.
Develop, and provide where required, training for both retail and head office staff in their consumer regulatory system obligations. Lift awareness and skill levels and educate staff in these areas.
Prepare accurate, comprehensive and timely investigation reports which set out any breaches, together with findings and recommendations made from audits, for relevant managers and the Executive Management Committee.
Our ideal candidate will have:
Legal qualification with a NZ practicing certificate
A minimum of 3 years PQE.
Well-developed knowledge of, and experience in retail regulatory spaces
Experience in operating as a trusted advisor to senior management.
Intermediate knowledge in Microsoft Office.
Ability to understand and apply consumer related legislation including, Fair Trading Act,
Consumer Guarantees Act and Privacy Act.
Excellent communication skills to suit the audience and ability to build effective relationships
across all levels of the organisation.
